Gamblers Anonymous has 20 Questions that might help you determine if you are a compulsive gambler.
Most compulsive gamblers will answer YES to at least 7 of the 20 questions but only you can decide if you have a problem.
If the answer is YES, then its probably best to get to a meeting
At your first meeting you will be welcomed by others who have had similar experiences to what you are going through right now and you will received a welcome pack to help you get started.
Attend as many meetings as possible per week.
There are meetings running every day, in-person and online. Find a meeting.
Contact other members as often as possible between meetings. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help, we are all here to help.
Our meetings are Anonymous so there is nothing to be concerned about, we are all there for the same reason.
Just turn up, there is no fee and you don't need to bring anything.
You can bring a support person if you choose, to an open meeting, but closed meetings are only for people who identify as a compulsive gambler.
Get the help you deserve from those that have been there too.
Don't tempt or test yourself. We recommend not going in or near gambling establishments.
Don't try to tackle everything at once. Just for today, live one day at a time.
Get to 90 days gamble free, get a Sponsor and start working on and practicing the 12 Steps of Recovery.
It’s not uncommon for people who struggle with addictions to relapse.
The best way forward is reach out, if you already have a sponsor, give them a call. If not, then contact another member and get to a meeting as soon as possible.
Big journey's begin with small steps
Answer Yes or No to the following questions:
Q1. Did you ever lose time from work or school due to gambling?
Q2. Has gambling ever made your home life unhappy?
Q3. Did gambling affect your reputation?
Q4. Have you ever felt remorse after gambling?
Q5. Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financial difficulties?
Q6. Did gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency?
Q7. After losing did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses?
Q8. After a win did you have a strong urge to return and win more?
Q9. Did you often gamble until all your money was gone?
Q10. Did you ever borrow to finance your gambling?
Q11. Have you ever sold anything to finance gambling?
Q12. Were you reluctant to use “gambling money” for normal expenditures?
Q13. Did gambling make you careless of the welfare of yourself or your family?
Q14. Did you ever gamble longer than you had planned?
Q15. Have you ever gambled to escape worry, trouble, boredom loneliness, grief or loss?
Q16. Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling?
Q17. Did gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping?
Q18. Do arguments, disappointments or frustrations create within you an urge to gamble?
Q19. Did you ever have an urge to celebrate any good fortune by a few hours of gambling?
Q20. Have you ever considered self destruction or suicide as a result of your gambling?
